"7th Annual
Special-All-Stars Program"
Begins Sunday April 28th...spread the word
Peer-toPeer
Volunteers still needed (must be 12+ years or older)..contact
mhgriff@optonline.net.
April 28,
2013, will begin the 7th year for the
“Special All-Stars Program”
designed for children with special needs.
The program will take place on 4 consecutive Sundays, April 28, May 5,
May 12, and May 19 from 10:00 am – 11:30 am. In order for this program
to be a success we need your help.
The program
requires that each participant have a one-on-one peer volunteer to
assist them through the 6 stations the program has set up. Peer
volunteers should be 12 years of age or older. Each station will have a
lead volunteer to direct you on how the station works. The 6 stations
are catching, hitting (t-ball), bunting, base running, ground balls, and
throwback. It will be an incredible experience for everyone!
Please join
us for this great experience! The response over the last 6 years has
been wonderful!
Marianne
Griffith is again spearheading the program along with the assistance of
many RBSA board members.
If you have
any questions, please call Marianne Griffith at 201-652-1853 or email
her at
mhgriff@optonline.net. She would be happy to answer any questions
or concerns you may have.

9th
Annual Wiffle for Cancer Tournament Sunday June 2
The 9th
Annual Wiffle for Cancer tournament in memory of Nick Currey will be
held on Sunday, June 2nd, starting at 12:00 noon at Ridgewood High
School, 627 East Ridgewood Avenue in Ridgewood. (Check-in begins at
11:30 a.m.) In the past eight years, hundreds of players of all ages
and skill levels have taken part in the event which has raised over
$100,000 to date. All proceeds benefit the Nick Currey Fund for Ewing
Sarcoma Research. The fund was created in memory of Nick Currey,
Ridgewood High School Class of 2004, who lost his 14-month battle with
Ewing sarcoma on November 3, 2005 at the age of 19.
Nick was a
lifelong player in the RBSA all the way through 12th grade Bonvarlet.
Participants are invited to put together a team of 3 to 5 players and
register at
www.wiffleforcancer.org.. There
is a $50/team entry fee, all of which goes to childhood cancer
research. Additional donations are always very much appreciated. Any
questions should be directed to Ralph Currey at wiffleforcancer@gmail.com.
The
tournament features two divisions—a "competitive" division for those
teams (high school and college age boys/girls and competitive adults)
who want to compete seriously for a shot at bragging rights as
tournament champion, and a "recreational" division for those teams
(younger kids and noncompetitive adults) that primarily just want to
have fun and support the cause.
Players of
all ages are welcome. The recreational division is the best choice for
younger kids.
Teams in
each division will be grouped into four-team brackets for an initial
round robin. Each team will play every other team in the bracket once,
so every team is guaranteed to play at least three games. At the end of
the round robin, the top teams will advance to a single elimination
championship round.
There are
trophies for the winning teams as well as best team name and shirt.
For
further information and online registration, visit
www.wiffleforcancer.org.
