Serious Softball, Serious Fun!

With spring behind us, Summer Rec Softball is ready to roll! Our staff is larger than ever, stacked with tremendously talented players. In addition to Ellen Seavers, former RHS superstar and current shortstop and leading hitter for College of NJ, we have five members of the RHS State Sectional Champion varsity team. We are all looking forward to helping you develop the skills to take your game to the next level and having a great time along the way!

Private lessons will be available for all aspects of the game. Former Bergen County strikeout leader and current Montclair State pitcher, Michelle Moat will once again serve as our pitching coach.

We will also offer private lessons for other aspects of the game - hitting, fielding (any position, including catcher!), base running, throwing - you name it! These will be intensive 30 minute training sessions, involving at least one and usually two or more members of our staff working exclusively with the player. These sessions will involve a high number of repetitions and running instructional commentary by our staff members, who will augment their teaching with demonstration, as they correct and encourage.

These sessions will be highly beneficial to all talent levels, from beginners to the most experienced travel players. Indeed, there are players from the 16U Blazers planning on taking advantage of this learning opportunity.

Of course, there will also be the usual Summer Rec Softball activities - enjoyable drills, exciting contests with prizes, pick up games, hitting in the batting cage, fielding towering fly balls from the “fly ball machine”, home run derby, wild games of running bases and yes, the occasional water balloon!

So if you’re a travel player looking for fielding or batting practice any day of the summer season, a casual player just looking for games and some fun while developing your skills or a beginner who’d like to learn how to play the game, RBSA Summer Rec Softball is perfect for you! Come on out and learn why Summer Rec Softball has become more popular with each passing year. It’s all about having FUN!

Summer Rec Softball starts Monday, June 29 and runs through Friday, July 31. There are two session per day, 10 to 12 and 1 to 3, all at Veteran‘s Field, southeast end (near the pump house). One sign up fee allows you to attend one or both sessions every day. The cost is $70 per week or $325 for all five weeks. Summer Rec Softball will be closed July 3. This date, as well as any rained out days, can be made up on any day of operation during the five weeks. Also, anyone wishing to sign up for additional weeks can do so just by showing up at the field any day.

Private lessons, pitching and hitting/fielding, are $25 for 30 minute sessions. You must sign up for at least one week of Summer Rec Softball to be eligible for these lessons.

Lunch hour supervision is also available for $5 per day, per child. Most days, staff members accompany the girls into the air conditioned Community Center, where they can eat lunch (brought from home), watch the big screen TV and play ping pong, pool, etc.

When signing up, please make checks out only for the weeks you wish to attend. Private lessons and lunch hour supervision will be charged separately, at the time of lesson or as arranged with staff.
